About me: Paul Haupt
After matriculating at Parktown Boys' High School in Johannesburg in 1976, I obtained a BA degree, majoring in History. Thereafter further study earned me an HDE and later a B.Ed degree from the University of Cape Town.
Since the early 1980s I taught History, English and Afrikaans at several institutions before assuming a Head of Department post at The Settlers High School in 1997. I was the Head of History for many years, acted as Deputy Principal and since 2006 was the Vice Principal in charge of the Information Management Committee.
I published three school history books as well as peer reviewed academic papers in accredited history journals, co-authored textbooks and edited school magazines.
From 1985 to 1987 I served on the Executive Committee of the Natal Teachers' Society. I then relocated to the Western Cape and from 2009 to 2014 I was an Executive Committee member of the South African Society for History Teaching. I have been involved in school governance as Chairman of the Governing Body of Goodwood Park Primary School and later served as a member of the Governing Body of Fairbairn College.
Having retired (after 39 years) from school teaching in 2018, I have been involved in writing, translating and on-line matric history tutoring for one of the Metro Districts of the Western Cape Education Department.
Above all, I value family and have been married to Mandy for over 30 years and have a daughter, Cindy, who is also involved in education - dealing with foundation phase to grade 7.
This blog is a new venture into some creative writing which I hope will be well-received, shared and enjoyed.
